Coma Berenices - Spiral Galaxy - Magnitude 8.5

 

 

Messier 64 - The Blackeye Galaxy in Coma Berenices

This 8.5 magnitude galaxy is very easy to view through the scope because it is spread across a small area.  Most telescopes will show the "black eye", a lane of dust some 40,000 light years in diameter.

Equipment: 10" LX-200 with SBIG ST-V at f/10, normal mode
