   OBSERVATORY CONSTRUCTION

Because finding plans for the constuction of such an observatory is difficult at best, I have decided to make my own plans available for free.  This page allows you to link to two articles documenting the construction of a roll-off roof observatory.    " PART ONE - Elements of Roll-Off Roof Observatories" speaks to the contemplations and decisions of planning such a structure.  I guide you through the questions you need to ask regarding functionality and practicality.  I provide you with pre-planning guidelines as well as actual construction plans as used on Ballauer Observatory.  Feel free to use any or all of the plans and suggestions for the design of your own observatory.

"PART TWO - Construction of a Roll-Off Roof Observatory" leads you through the actual process of the construction of such a structure using the Ballauer Observatory to illustrate the principles.  I've documented and photographed the entire process and you get the opportunity to see how Ballauer Observatory went from conception to planning to construction.

NOTE: The extent of these articles goes beyond the construction of a simple scope enclosure and it is written primarily for those with more ambition and a bigger budget; a permanent structure where you plan on staying for many years.  The articles assume very little experience in construction.  It is my hope that a beginner will find the articles thorough enough so that this may be THE definitive resource.
