As a well-known and somewhat accomplished astrophotographer, what could I possibly tell you about astronomy in general?

Its actually not a surprising question to me.   I've been accused of not knowing what an eyepiece is, mostly because people know that, for a time, I ate, breathed, and slept astrophotography!   Certainly, if people never saw an eyepiece actually IN my telescope, or they only recognized my face in the glow of a laptop screen, then it's definitely a valid question!

However, it's funny how those who know me best have never challenged me in an observing competition.  After all, they know quite well that I can point a green laser right at anything I'm imaging...and I always speak tons about the objects themselves, including their catalog designations and what they look like through a telescope.

You see, because prior to being swallowed by the photography bug, I spent several years being first, and foremost, a visual observer.  I read astronomy books.  I studied star maps.  I read magazines about space.

I watched Carl Sagan.

So, quite naturally, I need a place to talk with you about regular, non-photography, ol' fashioned ASTRONOMY!
